In 1988 AMC Chrysler closed the Milwaukee assembly plant, taking thousands of jobs out of our local economy. In 1995 the Northeast Milwaukee Industrial Development Corporation was created, years later the name was changed to the Riverworks Development Corporation.

The AMC campus was spread over 33 acres of urban industrial land, and all but one of the facilities was razed to make room for redevelopment. The last building standing is home to Compo Corp. which still calls Riverworks home.
